A post Christmas garden

The apple tree up the top of the garden continues to lose large branches in the wind. We have left this one as I feel it looks quite sculptural, almost like a giant spider.

The tree is covered in lichens and this tiny twig has grey and yellow patches on it.

On one side of the garden there are rather large patches of moss and at this time of year particularly, they look very vibrant.

The first of the bergenias are beginning to come into flower, which is always a good sign. They are very common and easy to grow, but provide good ground cover throughout the year and attractive flowers in very early spring. The dark leaved pittosporum tenuifolium Tom Thumb behind it provides a good contrast.
