Eunonymus fortunei

These shrubs are described in the RHS Good Plant Guide as being good at filling in gaps. They almost seem rather anonymous and perhaps not all that inspiring as they do not have big flowers or anything particularly spectacular. However, in the border they provide colour from their leaves all year round, are frost hardy and the variegated foliage - either gold and green or white and green provides a good contrast with other plants. In borders, especially at this time of year, when other plants may be fading, they still keep going strong.

They are also sold as mini shrubs and are ideal in pots to provide winter foliage, which can be underplanted with bulbs for spring colour.
