Lathyrus odoratus

I planted these out a couple of weeks ago. They are the varieties Matucana and Cupani, which are old fashioned types with slightly smaller flowers than more modern varieties, but very profuse and sweet smelling. The sweet pea flower was introduced from Sicily in 1699 and sweet peas were extensively cultivated and developed by Henry Eckford in Victorian times.
