A final few words about the Hampton Court Flower Show

The floral marquee lived up to expectations with an incredible diversity of plants and flowers. You walked in and were assaulted by an array of colour and sweet smell. I preferred the stands with a wider variety of plants but if say you were deciding which type of fuchsia you were going to grow the following year then the specialist nurseries are great for that and there were plenty of expert growers to offer help and advice.

Downderry nursery had a superb display of lavender. I hadn't realised that they are based near to Tonbridge in Kent and that as well as selling online they also do tours and are open from May until October. I think we will have to try and go there at some point. I bought a couple of small lavenders from them.

Achillea seemed very popular and there were several different red varieties which looked very attractive. I think I will have to try and grow them as some seem to tolerate dry soil in sun and we have a lot of that in our garden.

This display was a really attractive cottage garden effect - I am not sure now which nursery it was but could possibly have been Hardy's Cottage Garden Plants, based in Hampshire, who did have a great stand or Cath's Garden Plants, based in Cumbria. They both take orders online and stock different plants that you don't seem to be able to find anywhere else.
